Christ College Brecon - A Place of Learning Since 1541

Christ College is one of the oldest and consistently most successful schools in Wales. It was founded in 1541 by Henry VIII and occupies an enviable site on the outskirts of Brecon, a safe, small market town in the Brecon Beacons National Park. Originally a boys' school, the school became fully co-educational in 1995. The School buildings reflect the school's ancient past as well as its determination to provide the best modern facilities possible for its pupils. The Chapel and Dining Hall, both in daily use, date from the 13th Century when the site was occupied by a Dominican Priory.

Pupils at Christ College Brecon achieved some outstanding results in this year’s A level and GCSE examinations. The percentage of A and B grades at A level were a marked improvement on last year’s performance. Maths, English and Science departments performed particularly strongly, with 72 % of all entries in Maths and Science graded A or B.  At GCSE level, an incredible 46% of all GCSE grades were A* or A, which is a rise of 6% on last year’s grades. Pupils performed exceptionally in the key subjects of Maths, English and the Sciences, bucking the national trend, with 90% of pupils achieving Grades A to C in these subjects, with 37% of the Maths candidates achieving an A* grade, and 61% achieving A* and A grades. However, results in Art and Photography caught the eye with 88% of grades being A* or A.  Also, whilst the number of pupils choosing Science subjects is rapidly falling in the UK, nearly 34% of Christ College pupils over the last 9 years have gone to read Science at University.  A multi-million pound legacy from an Old Breconian is enabling the school to fund additional Scholarships as well as developing exciting proposals for new Science facilities.

It is important also to stress that these academic achievements should be seen against a background of Christ College pupils' full engagement to a high standard in sport, music, drama and other pastoral contributions to the life of the school community.

So why don't you come along and see for yourself how Christ College offers academic excellence, a happy and purposeful environment with cultural and sporting opportunities which make for the best and broadest education.
