Cambridge Centre
for Sixth-form Studies (CCSS)

CCSS offers a unique and individual approach to learning, building a relationship of mutual respect between students and staff and developing self-confidence within each student.

General
CCSS specialises in A-Level and GCSE courses, and preparing students for entry into the best universities in the UK and abroad.

We have around 180 students aged from 15 to 21. Around half of them stay in our own boarding accommodation and the others are day students. CCSS is a happy, purposeful and vibrant College with a wide range of sporting, cultural and social activities available.

The College has three teaching sites and all are located close to the centre of the world-renowned university city of Cambridge. Cambridge is only a 50-minutes’ train-ride from London, with easy connections to international airports.

Our courses
We offer One and Two Year A-Levels GCSE courses. A wide range of subjects are available in each.

Teaching
The teaching at CCSS is a collaborative and shared learning experience, which fosters focus and motivation, and creates a very productive and exciting schooling environment and experience for every student at the College. The informality and strength of working relationships lead to a bond of loyalty between students and staff, and the trust and independence that students have at the College give them freedom to make the right choices and decisions for them in their learning.

Classes at CCSS are less than half the average for the independent sector in the UK and much smaller than in state schools. The average class size at CCSS is five pupils so everyone gets the attention they need.

As well as group classes, all A-level students have additional ‘one-to-one’ sessions in each subject. These tutorials allow students and teachers to work together on areas of uncertainty or interest, analysing examination questions and discussing outstanding answers and the strategy for creating these answers.

Preparation for university, and for your career.

We pride ourselves in being a college which gives our students support and guidance to ensure that they are well prepared in all aspects of the university application, from personal statement writing and interview practicing to university visits and careers workshops. Work experience can also be arranged to strengthen and enhance university applications.

The success of the CCSS students means that the great majority go on to university in the UK or elsewhere, with many enjoying success at Cambridge, Oxford, LSE and other top universities in subjects ranging from international business to law and medicine.
